    • Three times the price of the ticket? Not enough.

    • Monday, February 07, 2011
    • You likely heard that the NFL was short a few hundred seats at the Superbowl. When they didn't have seats for tickets they had sold, they offered to pay the ticket holders three times the face value of the tickets. Sounds great right? But what about airline expenses, rental cars, fuel, time off work, baby sitters, dog sitters, (cat sitters are not all that common), hotel rooms and other travel expenses? And who's going to offer to pay for those giant cheese wedge hats? Seems like the NFL should break out the checkbook and make this right. Also, I think I suffered some mental anguish when Christina Agular-I-forgot-the-words. I wonder if they'll pay for the therapy I'm going to need?

    • Took a ride in the Liberty Belle B17

    • Monday, October 25, 2010
    • The Liberty Belle B17 arrives in Fort Lauderdale. Matt Walker, Kenny Walker and I got to go flying today aboard the restored World War II Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Liberty Belle". (You can fly in it too! Public flights available October 30-31 Flight hours are 10am to 5pm at Banyan Executive terminal at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (Commercial & NW 21st Fort Lauderdale). It's one of only 14 B-17's that still fly today. The B-17 dubbed the "Flying Fortress". The majority of all WWII B-17's were operated by the 8th Airforce in Europe and participated in countless missions from bases in England deep into enemy territory. There were 12,732 B-17's produced between 1935 and 1945, of these 4,735 were lost in combat. Following WWII, the B-17 saw combat in three more wars, B-17's saw service in Korea, Israel used them in the war of 1948 and they also were used in Vietnam. More at: www.libertyfoundation.org. Flights are $430 per person and last about 25 minutes. Seems like a lot however, it costs about $4000/hr to keep her flying.

    • Growing Up Is Too Easy Now. (I sound like my grand parents)

    • Monday, April 12, 2010
    • When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up walking twenty-five miles to school every morning.... Uphill... Barefoot.... BOTH ways. And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in heck I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids. But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it! When I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the darn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our butt! Nowhere was safe! There were no MP3's or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and mess it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished, and then the tape would come undone rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that's how we rolled, Baby! Dig? We didn't have Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it! There weren't any freakin' cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a darn call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends." OH MY !!! Think of the horror... not being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there's TEXTING. Yeah, right. And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, the collection agent... you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your rear and walk over to the TV to change the channel! There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-finks! And not many of us had microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! And our parents told us to stay outside and play... all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside... you were doing chores! And car seats and seat belts - oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were lucky, you got the "safety arm" across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first place!

    • Thursday, March 04, 2010
    • John Dickinson and Chip Garber were diving on a wreck off Palm Beach called "The Princess Ann" when they found a nurse shark on the bottom the ocean just lying there. The Shark had a large Frisbee disk around it that kept it from eating and was litterally starving. So what did they do? They carefully approached the shark and removed the ring. The shark said "thanks" by not biting them. I'm a diver. There's no way I could have done that. Why? Did you ever see Jaws? Sure, that was a Great White and this is a Nurse Shark. Still, it's the last part I have trouble with. (Shark) (Photo Courtesy: John Dickinson)

    • I have mentioned people being discourteous at movie theaters, but this is a whole order of magnitude more severe: Last night, a woman was shot while watching Avatar at the Century Rio 24 theater complex in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The woman was not fatally injured. Police don't know if the gunfire was intentional or accidental or if someone just got tired of people talking on their cellphones during the movie. Two suspects have been taken into custody.

As seen in the photo, the mouth ornament is adorned with six topaz stones and two citrine stones. The grill is made of 10 karat yellow gold and carries an appraised value of $349. A great value? Maybe. But, gross, this was in someone's mouth. Yuk.

    • Tuesday, October 13, 2009
    • OK, I know this might seem like a little thing. Maybe it is. We're fortunate enough to live near the beach and on weekend mornings, I try to make time to go put my toes in the water and my seat in the sand. It does make me crazy when everywhere I look at the beach, I see cigarette butts. Don't get me wrong, I really don't mind if people smoke - I just don't want to sink my toes into an ashtray. It's gross.

    • Monday, October 12, 2009
    • Finding character witnesses when you are 6 years old is not easy. But there was Zachary Christie last week at a school disciplinary committee hearing with his karate instructor and his mother by his side to vouch for him. So what is Zachary's offense? Taking a camping utensil that can serve as a knife, fork and spoon to school. He was so excited about recently joining the Cub Scouts that he wanted to use it at lunch. School officials concluded that he had violated their zero-tolerance policy on weapons, and Zachary was suspended and now faces 45 days in the district reform school. I was a Cub Scout. I think I may still have one of these deadly weapons in my car.

    • WWII B-17 bomber will take to the skies over Ft Lauderdale

    • Tuesday, September 15, 2009
    • The Liberty Belle, a restored WWII B-17 "flying fortress" bomber will take to the skies over Fort Lauderdale Public flights available September 19-20)

Sixty five years ago these aircraft flew from bases far from home in an attempt to bring freedom to oppressed peoples. Our B-17's mission for today is to educate the people of America about the courages WWII veterans, and remember those brave aircrew who never made it home. "Liberty Belle" is a living museum, our heritage not in mothballs or the pages of a dusty book, but real life, three dimensions, here and now. You are invited to come touch the past and fly through ageless skies.

The Liberty Belle was built to do exactly one thing, and not a single rivet deviates from that intent, yet is has been converted by human ingenuity and determination into a vessel that bridges understanding between generations. It's an old bomber with a new mission. Photobucket

    • Tuesday, July 28, 2009
    • This just in from Washington DC - New research shows medical spending averages $1,400 more a year for an obese person than for someone who’s normal weight. The higher expense reflects the costs of treating diabetes, heart disease and other ailments far more common for the overweight. So lose the pounds for your health. Lose them for your loved ones. Lose the pounds to save the suspension in your car. Finally, lose the pounds to save your bank account!

We met Michelle and Patty up in the Turf Club and had a nice lunch and got to place an occasional wager on our favorite horse. For the record, I didn't make any winning picks but it was a great way to spend lunch. By the way, after lunch we went down to the barn to get a picture of Simon & Walker with the horses. In case you see them, the horse is in the middle.
    • Who's the naked guy running down the street?

    • Wednesday, July 08, 2009
    • Dateline.... PORT ST. LUCIE. It seems a young girl had been having discussions on MySpace one day and decided it was somehow appropriate that they meet - at her home - at midnight in her bedroom. It seems the gentleman thought it was best to enter through her window instead of the front door. Her cousin found her door locked and forced her way in where she discovered Barrington Benjimen Jr, 18, with her cousin. Forgetting his Levis, Benjimin then jumped out the window and ran down the street. Not to worry, Port St. Lucie police picked him up. So, if you saw a naked guy running down the street a couple of weeks ago, in the middle of the night, now you know why. Isn't MySpace a great place to meet interesting new people.

    • In Flight Safety Videos you might want to pay attention to

    • Monday, July 06, 2009
    • Air New Zealand has come up with a unique way to get passengers to watch their in-flight safety video: In the video, the cabin crew is wearing nothing but body paint. The "Bare Essentials of Safety" is being shown in the cabins of planes flying Air New Zealand's main domestic routes. In the video, three flight attendants and a pilot, all in full body paint applied to look like their uniforms, talk viewers through the plane's safety procedures. Seat belts, life jackets and arm rests are strategically placed to cover the crew's "restricted areas." Click here to check out the video. Don't worry, it's safe in the office.

Since there is very limited supervision here on this July 3rd holiday at Kiss Country, a few of us stole the keys to the Kiss Country ice cream truck and pilfered some Blue Bell Ice Cream sandwiches. 4th of July and ice cream. That's about as good as Summer gets. Happy 4th of July!
    • 60 Percent Chance of Rain

    • Thursday, July 02, 2009
    • So, our boss came in and asked, "if we're having a torrential rainstorm, does it make sense to say "sixty percent chance of rain"?" Well, after giving it some thought and consulting our consultant, our engineer, our book keeper, our front desk reception person Amy and my magic eightball, I've come to the conclusion that it's possibly not raining in all of the listening area. Having said that, forecast for today: Rain. Remember to roll up your windows and close the sunroof.
    • Fireworks until 8AM?

    • Wednesday, July 01, 2009
    • As a kid, I always loved fireworks, even when the sparklers burned my fingers. Now, I'm not so in love with them. I like the big fireworks at the beach and over Landshark Statium after a game. However, the neighborhood fireworks that burned my neighbor's car last year and the ones that are still going off accross the street at 8AM on July 5th are just not as appealing as they use to be. I'll be up late for the fireworks on the 4th but I may be inside with the windows closed and a blanket over my head in the early hours of the 5th just waiting for the explosions to stop. Enjoy your 4th of July!

    • Our cat is a pothead

    • Thursday, June 25, 2009
    • Sure. We all just say "NO" to drugs for people. But what about animals? I'm not talking about crystal meth for the family pet. I speaking of Catnip. It's a little plant you can grow in the garden or buy in the supermarket and cats love it. Essentially, it's marijuana for cats. They crave it and will go crazy trying to get their paws on it. Once they get a little taste of this herb, they roll in it, lick it and then simply space out. It's just like the potheads we went to high school with only nobody gets detention. It's just the cat lying on his back starring at the ceiling all zoned out. Thus far, the catnip - aka: pot for cats - hasn't lead to harder drugs and he hasn't become addicted and hasn't scoured our house for brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Further, as far as I've noticed, he hasn't been dealing in catnip with other cats in the neighborhood. So, I ask, does it matter if our family cat is a pothead?
